When people think of therapy and emotional support animals, certain breeds often come to mind.

But more and more communities are discovering what we’ve known for years: Bernedoodles are uniquely suited for service roles. Sergeant, our Honey x Milo puppy donated to the Rexburg Police Department, is proof of that.

Bernedoodles combine the steady loyalty of the Bernese Mountain Dog with the intelligence and trainability of the Poodle. The result is a dog that is emotionally intuitive, gentle, eager to please, and highly adaptable. These traits are critical for ESA and therapy environments, especially in schools where children may be experiencing stress, anxiety, or emotional challenges.

From the beginning, our puppies are intentionally prepared for confident life experiences. We implement Early Neurological Stimulation, introduce varied sounds and environments, and provide consistent, positive human interaction. Puppies learn to tolerate grooming, nail trims, baths, and handling around their face and paws. That early exposure builds resilience and calmness — two traits essential for therapy work.

Sergeant is already demonstrating what makes Bernedoodles so special. Students gravitate toward his soft, minky-like coat and affectionate presence. Officers see firsthand how a calm dog can de-escalate tension and brighten difficult days.

At Farm Beach Puppies, our mini Bernedoodles are:

  • Fluffy, non-shedding and adorable
  • Socialized from day one
  • Confident and non-reactive
  • Exceptional family companions

But beyond that, they are capable of impact. They are capable of service. They are capable of helping communities.

Watching Sergeant step into his role reminds us why we are so passionate about what we do. These dogs aren’t just pets. They are partners, helpers, and sometimes, exactly what a child needs in a hard moment.

Rexburg’s newest ESA is just getting started — and we can’t wait to see the continued difference he makes.
